From Staff Reports

The City of Cochran’s planned downtown revitalization project remains in a holding pattern as officials await approval from the Georgia Department of Transportation before the project can move forward.

According to Downtown Development Authority Director Ken Land, the next step in the process cannot begin until revised project plans receive final approval.

“Sadly, we are still waiting on the revised plans to be approved by DOT so that the formal bid process can begin,” Land said in a recent update.

The project, which is being funded through TSPLOST, was announced earlier this year as a partnership between the City of Cochran and the Downtown Development Authority aimed at improving the appearance and functionality of the downtown district.

When the project was first announced, Land said the improvements would provide a much-needed refresh for downtown Cochran.

Planned upgrades include roadway and crosswalk improvements, along with restriping, pressure washing and enhanced lighting throughout the downtown area.

The project was originally expected to begin in May and be completed by September. However, the timeline will depend on when DOT approval is received and the formal bidding process can move forward.

No updated construction start date has been announced.

Land said the DDA remains committed to the project and continues to work through the approval process necessary to move the downtown improvements forward.

“We’re looking forward to getting started as soon as the approvals are in place,” Land previously said of the revitalization effort.
