The City of Cochran has announced a change to its utility cut-off procedures, saying the adjustment comes in response to concerns raised by customers regarding water and utility billing.
According to information released by the city, beginning with the June 23 utility cut-off date, customers will have until 9:30 a.m. on the day of cut-off to pay any remaining balance on their accounts before the cut-off process begins.
City officials stated the change was made after listening to community feedback and is intended to improve customer service.
The city also noted that once the cut-off process has started, any account with an unpaid balance after 9:30 a.m. will be assessed a reconnect fee, regardless of whether utility crews have reached the home or business to disconnect service.
The announcement comes as utility billing and payment deadlines have been a frequent topic of discussion among residents in recent weeks.
In its notice, the city thanked residents for their patience and continued support, describing the policy adjustment as “another step toward improving the service we provide to our community.”
