COCHRAN — Bleckley County Elementary School has issued a clarification of its dress code after receiving questions from parents about requirements for shorts, skirts and skorts.
School officials said BCES will continue to follow the fingertip-length requirement. When a student stands with their arms relaxed at their sides, shorts, skirts and skorts must reach at least to the student’s longest fingertip from the front, sides and back.
For skirts and skorts, students should wear shorts underneath when they are not already sewn into the garment.
The school also addressed popular athletic styles, including flowy and butterfly-style shorts. Those styles are permitted only if they meet the same fingertip-length requirement from the front, sides and back. Clothing that does not meet the length requirement is not allowed.
“We have had many parents reach out with questions regarding the dress code requirements for shorts, skirts, and skorts, and we appreciate you asking for clarification,” the school stated. “We hope the graphic helps provide a clearer picture of our expectations.”
BCES officials said the clarification is intended to provide consistency for students and families while helping students come to school comfortable and ready to learn.
“Thank you for partnering with us to help students arrive at school comfortable, confident, and ready to learn,” the school stated. “We appreciate our BCES families working with us as we provide consistency and clarity for everyone.”
