From Cochran Fire & Emergency Services
Over the past nine days, firefighters from the City of Cochran have been on the ground in Brantley County, helping battle what has become one of the largest wildfire events in the state.
According to the department, crews were deployed through the Georgia Mutual Aid Group (GMAG) as the fire rapidly expanded — growing from roughly 5,000 acres to more than 22,000 acres.
During that time, Cochran sent two apparatus and rotated 10 firefighters through deployment schedules, all while maintaining full fire protection coverage here at home.
It’s a balance that doesn’t happen without teamwork.
Firefighters worked long hours on the fire lines in Brantley County, assisting not only local residents but also departments and agencies from across Georgia and the country. Back in Cochran, others picked up extra shifts to ensure the city was never left unprotected.
City leaders were also recognized for supporting the effort, allowing crews to respond when help was needed most.
