For Sherri Kidd Ligon, kindness isn’t just something you practice when it’s convenient—it’s a way of life.
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Sherri’s journey eventually led her to Cochran, a place that would become home in more ways than one.
It was here that both she and her husband, Anderson, landed on the same day for interviews—two paths aligning in a way that would shape their future.
Today, the couple has been married for 34 years, building a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Anderson, a retired college basketball coach, continues to pour into others as a professor, while Sherri has spent decades doing much the same in her own way.
Together, they raised two children, Dominic and Alexis, instilling in them the same values that have guided Sherri throughout her life.
From 2005 to 2021, Sherri served as a Pre-K teacher in Cochran, where she became known for something that can’t be measured by lesson plans or test scores.
To her, every student was more than just a name on a roster—they were her “babies.”
“I always tried to treat my students the way I would want someone to treat my own children,” she said. “With love and respect.”
That mindset followed her when she later moved to Bonaire and began teaching in Houston County Schools.
No matter the classroom or the county line, her approach never changed—lead with kindness, lead with heart.
At the center of it all is a simple belief Sherri holds close: the Golden Rule.
“Always try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes,” she said. “God has been good to me.”
It’s not just something she says—it’s something she lives out daily.
Each morning, Sherri sends out a message—sometimes to more than 200 people—filled with scripture and encouragement.
It’s a quiet but powerful ministry, one that reaches far beyond her immediate circle. A text, a verse, a few thoughtful words… often arriving just when someone needs it most.
That spirit of giving and perseverance was shaped early in her life by her mother, Donna Kidd.
“My mom is my hero,” Sherri said. “She worked two jobs as a single parent and made so many sacrifices to take care of us.”
It’s a legacy of strength and selflessness that Sherri carries with her still.
Today, she worships at Faith Temple Precious Faith Ministries in Cochran—a small church, as she describes it, but one with a big heart. It’s the kind of place where faith feels personal and community runs deep, much like the life Sherri has built around her.
As she looks ahead to turning 58 this July, Sherri isn’t focused on milestones or recognition. Instead, she continues doing what she’s always done—loving people well, showing up with kindness, and living out her faith in simple, meaningful ways.
Because for Sherri Kidd Ligon, the Golden Rule isn’t just something you learn—it’s something you live.
