Kristen Shepherd, a 40-year-old wife and mother, is searching for pieces of her past—hoping the community can help fill in the gaps.
Shepherd is asking for anyone who may have memories, photos, or stories of her father, Keith Hanson—known to many as “Pistol Pete” during the days of Rocking H Stables—to come forward and share them.
Growing up, Shepherd knew her family had deep roots tied to land off Dublin Highway, where Rocking H Stables once welcomed people from all over to ride horses and spend time together. But now, living on that same family land, she’s realizing there’s so much she doesn’t know.
“It’s like a piece of the puzzle is missing,” she said. “When I lost my dad, I just thought we’d have more time.”
Her grandparents, Walter B. and Mary Helen Hanson, also played a role in building that legacy—one that Shepherd says she’s only beginning to understand.
Her father, a champion barrel racer, was known not only for his skill but for his wisdom and work ethic. Still, Shepherd says there are so many questions she wishes she had asked.
Now, she hopes the community can help tell the story.
“There is a heritage in this land,” she said. “I want to know it… and I want to be able to share it with my boys as they grow older.”
Shepherd has plans to restore the stables and trails, with the hope of bringing new life to a place that once meant so much to so many. But before that can happen, she wants to honor the history—her father, her grandparents, and the memories others may still carry.
If you have stories, memories, or information about Rocking H Stables, the Hanson family, or the trails off Dublin Highway, you’re encouraged to reach out.

Because sometimes, the past isn’t gone—it’s just waiting to be remembered.
