From Staff Reports

BLECKLEY COUNTY: Bleckley County Sheriff Daniel Cape has joined more than 100 judicial, legal and law-enforcement leaders from across Georgia in supporting Amendment 2.

The proposed constitutional amendment would require Georgia probate judges to be elected in nonpartisan elections, meaning candidates would appear on the ballot without a political party designation.

Cape joins supporters including Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, former Georgia Supreme Court justices and dozens of current and former sheriffs.

Supporters say probate judges handle important matters including estates, guardianships, marriage licenses and weapons-carry licenses and should be elected under the same nonpartisan system already used for Georgia’s other elected judges.

Voters will be asked:

“Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to require that all probate judges be elected in nonpartisan elections?”

Amendment 2 will appear on the statewide ballot in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election.
