COCHRAN, Ga. — A woman was transported by medical helicopter for treatment Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, following a shooting incident in the Johnson Street area of Cochran.

According to a press release issued by the Cochran Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 5:40 p.m. after receiving a report that someone had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers located a female suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers with the Cochran Police Department, along with personnel from the Cochran Fire Department and Heartland EMS, rendered aid to the victim. She was subsequently transported by medical helicopter for further treatment.

The Cochran Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, her current condition or details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
