COCHRAN — Three Bleckley County 4-H’ers brought home honors after competing among some of Georgia’s top 4-H students at the 83rd Annual Georgia 4-H State Congress in Atlanta.
Rebekah Crosby earned first place and Master 4-H status in the Poultry project, giving her the opportunity to compete and represent Bleckley County 4-H at the national level. Ben Agnew placed third in the History project, while Vada Bloodworth received Honorable Mention in Food for Health and Sport.
The annual State Congress was held July 21-24 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta and included state-level Project Achievement and Leadership in Action competitions.
More than 200 youth delegates competed in 53 Project Achievement areas. The highest-scoring competitor in each area earns the designation of Master 4-H’er as a state winner.
Project Achievement is one of Georgia 4-H’s core programs and is designed to develop leadership, creativity, public speaking and record-keeping skills. High school participants select an area of interest, research their topic, prepare and deliver a presentation, and participate in related community service and civic engagement activities. State competitors also take part in individual interviews with professionals about their project work.
Georgia 4-H is administered through University of Georgia Extension and focuses on developing life skills, positive relationships and community awareness among young people.
