COCHRAN — The City of Cochran Water Department will begin its annual hydrant flushing program on Tuesday, July 21, with crews working throughout the week to flush hydrants in neighborhoods across the city.
Hydrant flushing is a routine maintenance process that helps remove sediment from water lines, improve water quality and ensure hydrants are functioning properly for fire protection.
Residents in areas where flushing is taking place may experience temporary drops in water pressure or notice discolored water. The discoloration is temporary and should clear after running cold water for several minutes.
The flushing schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, July 21
Crews will work in the areas of the City Barn, Ash Street, Second Street, Mendel Lane, Beech Street, Cherry Street and East Dykes Street, including locations near First Baptist Church Hangar and Goody’s Store.
Wednesday, July 22
Hydrant flushing is scheduled for portions of Ash Street, Second Street, Phillips Lane, Thompson Street, Wilmore Street, Dinah Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Johnson Street and Roberson Crescent Road.
Thursday, July 23
Crews will flush hydrants along Johnson Street, Mary Street, Thompson Street, Fairground Circle, Carnival Drive, Clark Drive, Lakeview Church Road and portions of East Dykes Street.
Friday, July 24
The week’s work will conclude with hydrant flushing along East Dykes Street, including areas near Cochran Primary School, Grahams Lane, Dollar General and Walmart.
Residents are encouraged to avoid washing clothes if water appears discolored and to allow cold water to run for several minutes until it clears. Anyone with questions about the hydrant flushing schedule may contact the City of Cochran Water Department.
