More than 300 adults and children filled the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran-Bleckley Library Wednesday, May 27, as the community gathered to celebrate the launch of the library’s annual summer reading program.

This year’s theme, “Unearth a Story,” featured dinosaurs, fossils and discovery while encouraging children and families to spend the summer reading and exploring new books.

According to Branch Manager Gina Thomas, the kickoff event drew a large crowd and included a variety of activities and games for children of all ages.

Families enjoyed a bounce house, fossil dig, lawn games, dinosaur-themed sidewalk chalk art, a scavenger hunt and prizes throughout the morning. The Georgia Department of Public Health was also on hand during the event.

Children who signed up for the summer reading program received goody bags as excitement filled the library and surrounding grounds.

And, of course, books remained at the center of it all.

The summer reading program encourages children and families to continue reading during the summer months while participating in fun educational activities through the library system.
