From Staff Reports

Bleckley County controlled the first half Friday night, building a 28-0 halftime lead over Jasper County behind a strong passing attack and a defense that repeatedly shut down the Hurricanes.

The Royals struck first in the opening quarter when quarterback Brody Fleming connected with Jason McNulty Jr. for a 55-yard touchdown pass. Dylan Lamb added the extra point to give Bleckley County a 7-0 lead.

Bleckley’s defense kept Jasper County off the scoreboard throughout the first quarter, with Cody Register recording a tackle for loss during one of the Hurricanes’ possessions.

Late in the quarter, the Royals moved deep into Jasper territory when Fleming completed a long pass to Gage Harris, setting Bleckley up at the 13-yard line as the period came to an end.

The Royals carried that momentum into the second quarter.

Fleming connected with Kelvin Sneed Jr. for a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Lamb’s extra point pushed the lead to 14-0.

Bleckley’s defense then forced Jasper County to turn the ball over on downs near midfield. The Royals quickly capitalized, as Fleming found McNulty for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Lamb converted the PAT to make it 21-0.

Later in the quarter, Jasper County punted the ball back to Bleckley, and the Royals struck again. Fleming connected with Octavius Tate for a 37-yard touchdown pass, and Lamb added his fourth extra point of the night to extend the lead to 28-0.

Jasper County mounted its best scoring threat of the half in the closing seconds, driving inside the Bleckley 10-yard line and eventually reaching the Royals’ 3. But Bleckley’s defense held firm, forcing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-goal with four seconds remaining.

Fleming finished the first half with four touchdown passes to three different receivers, while the Royals’ defense preserved the shutout.

Halftime: Bleckley County 28, Jasper County 0.
