From Staff Reports
Georgia residents are being warned to watch for scam text messages falsely claiming to be from the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS).
According to officials, the fraudulent messages often threaten driver’s license suspension over unpaid fines and may mention penalties such as additional fees or damage to a person’s credit score. The texts typically include links to fake websites designed to steal personal or financial information.
Officials stress that the official Georgia DDS website is dds.ga.gov and that DDS will never request payments or sensitive information through unsolicited text messages.
Residents are encouraged to verify their driving status only through official DDS Online Services by logging into their account directly through the DDS website.
Consumers are advised not to click on suspicious links or provide personal information through unsolicited texts or emails.
Anyone who may have clicked on a fraudulent link or shared information should immediately contact their bank or credit card provider, monitor their credit activity, and report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission or IdentityTheft.gov.
Officials also noted that scam messages may contain web addresses that look official but do not match legitimate DDS websites. Residents are urged to remain cautious and avoid interacting with suspicious communications.
