Bleckley County’s playoff run is still alive after the Royals powered past Heard County 12-2 in Game 2 Friday night to clinch the series and advance to the next round of the state playoffs.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Royals answered in a big way with five runs in the top of the second and never looked back. Bleckley County added one run in the third, four more in the fourth and two in the fifth to seal the win.
The Royals finished with 16 hits in the contest and had production throughout the lineup. J. Johnson scored four runs and collected three hits, while N. Woodard had a huge night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles. B. Fleming added two hits and two RBIs, while C. Foskey drove in four runs, including a home run. L. Sapp also had two hits and an RBI in the victory.
On the mound, J. Holloway went the distance for Bleckley County, pitching all five innings. He allowed two runs, only one earned, while striking out five.
Heard County collected eight hits, including a first-inning home run by B. Cofield, but the Braves were unable to slow the Royals’ offense after the opening frame.
With the win, Bleckley County advances to the next round of the postseason as the Royals continue their chase for a deep playoff run.
