From Staff Reports

BLECKLEY COUNTY, Ga. — On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, deputies with the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a local automobile dealership regarding a suspected fraud involving the purchase of two vehicles using fraudulent funds.

During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a criminal defense attorney in Atlanta who reported that approximately $19,000 had been fraudulently withdrawn from his account and used toward the purchase of the vehicles.

Deputies subsequently located one of the vehicles and took Malcolm Jamal Chambers into custody. Chambers faces charges of Deposit Account Fraud and Theft by Deception.

At the time of his arrest, Chambers was also found in possession of a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number. Because Chambers is a convicted felon, he faces additional firearm-related charges.

The investigation remains active. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence regarding the suspected involvement of an inmate currently incarcerated at Augusta State Medical Prison.

Additional charges and arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
