Most small towns have a place where older men gather for breakfast and coffee, fellowship, and the goal of solving the world’s problems.
There might be times when a little gossip is thrown into the conversation as well. Whether it’s at a local café, Hardee’s, McDonald’s, or Chick-fil-A, the group might linger for hours.
Many of these men look forward to the fellowship because they live alone. It’s a time for them to have someone to talk with and to get out of the house.
Until you’ve experienced loneliness, it’s hard to understand why someone would sit at Hardee’s for two hours.
Charles Spurgeon wrote extensively about loneliness. He taught that God sometimes brings us into solitude so that we will learn to depend more fully upon Him.
Paul shared with Timothy about a time when everyone deserted him. Then he said, “But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength” (2 Timothy 4:16-17).
Paul experienced real human loneliness, yet he discovered that he was never alone. We may sometimes be alone, but as believers, we are never alone because God is always with us.
