COCHRAN — The Cochran City Council will meet twice Tuesday, Aug. 11, with a special called meeting scheduled just 30 minutes before the council’s regular monthly meeting.

The special called meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the City Auditorium.

According to the agenda, the only item of business listed for the called meeting is an executive session for personnel, litigation or real estate. The agenda does not specify which of those matters will be discussed.

Council members will reconvene for their regular meeting at 6 p.m.

The regular meeting will include public comment, a presentation recognizing Shawn Bass for 15 years of service and recognition of City Hall employees. Department heads from finance, fire, police and public works are also scheduled to give reports.

Representatives from several outside agencies are scheduled to report to council, including the Industrial Development Authority, Tessie W. Norris Cochran-Bleckley County Library, Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Authority and airport.

Council will also consider several items related to city operations.

The first involves an airport project for Runway 11-29, the taxiway and north apron. The Georgia Department of Transportation has tentatively awarded Fiscal Year 2027 funding for crack sealing, rejuvenation and remarking work. The project requires $1,900 in matching funds from the City of Cochran.

Council will consider an agreement between the Federal Aviation Administration and the city concerning maintenance of the Automated Weather Observation System at the airport. According to the agenda, the agreement is required for the FAA to perform an inspection of the system.

Another item involves renewal of the city’s agreement with M.E. Sack Environmental for operations management services at the municipal treatment plant. The city originally entered into the agreement in August 2024.

Council will also consider a new municipal advisory agreement with Crews & Associates. The city has had an agreement with the company since February 2021, but a recent reorganization within Crews & Associates requires a new agreement to be executed. According to the agenda, the scope of services and compensation will not change.

The regular meeting agenda also includes an executive session for personnel, litigation or real estate near the end of the meeting. That means executive sessions are listed on the agendas for both the 5:30 p.m. called meeting and the 6 p.m. regular meeting.

Both meetings will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the City Auditorium.
