COCHRAN — Heartland EMS is continuing to introduce the people behind its emergency medical services through its Employee Spotlight series, recognizing the team members who help serve communities across Middle Georgia.

The latest spotlights feature Chuck Haywood, Jennifer Barrett and Suzanne Wilkins, each bringing unique talents and experiences to the organization.

Chuck Haywood has been with Heartland EMS for 14 years, serving as the agency’s Information Technology Officer. More recently, he earned his EMT license, expanding his role within the organization.

Haywood is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in IT Cybersecurity. Outside of work, he is the lead singer for the band Eighttrack Flashback.

When asked why he chose EMS, Haywood shared that a previous experience involving his brother-in-law inspired him to become better prepared to help others in emergency situations.

Jennifer Barrett earned her EMT-R certification after completing classes through Heartland EMS and has now been licensed for a year and a half.

Outside of work, Barrett enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, relaxing at home with her dog and boyfriend, and watching movies.

She said her passion for EMS comes from making a difference in people’s lives.

“I enjoy EMS because I love making a difference in people’s lives and in my community,” Barrett said. “I enjoy being a positive, supportive, caring person in people’s difficult times of need because in that moment, you may be all they have.”

Suzanne Wilkins has served as a billing clerk with Heartland EMS for the past nine months.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, riding horses and coaching soccer.

Wilkins said she appreciates both the work she does and the supportive environment at Heartland EMS.

“Working at Heartland has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said. “I truly enjoy what I do in contract billing and I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and welcoming team. One of the things I appreciate most is the schedule, which allows me to have a healthy work-life balance.”

Heartland EMS says its Employee Spotlight series gives the public an opportunity to get to know the people who serve behind the scenes and on the front lines, highlighting the dedication and commitment of its staff members throughout the region.
