From Staff Reports
Students returning to Bleckley County High School this fall will be expected to follow an updated dress code aimed at promoting a focused, safe learning environment.
According to information released by BCHS, the updated policy provides additional guidance on acceptable clothing, footwear, outerwear and student appearance while on campus.
Among the changes, hoods may be worn on the head inside the building, but hats, caps, bonnets, do-rags, bandanas, ski masks, knit caps, toboggans, trench coats, tactical-style vests, blankets and “Snuggies” are prohibited.
The policy also outlines requirements for shirts, pants, athletic wear, shorts, skirts and dresses. Tops must appropriately cover undergarments, cleavage, midriff, sides and back, while shorts, skirts and dresses must extend below mid-thigh.
In addition, all bottoms must have a traditional, loose fit and be worn at the natural waist. Leggings, jeggings, yoga pants, compression pants, pajama bottoms and clothing with holes or frays above the knee are not permitted.
School officials say violations will be documented, and students may be assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) until appropriate clothing is obtained. Repeated violations may result in additional disciplinary action.
The school administration will make the final determination regarding dress code compliance.
Parents and students are encouraged to review the complete policy before the start of the new school year.
