While in college, there were a few days when I worked at a service station much like this one.
It truly was a service station because I pumped gas, checked oil, washed windshields, and checked the air pressure in tires. One Saturday, a customer asked for three dollars’ worth of gas.
I became so busy cleaning his windshield that I accidentally pumped too much gas. Immediately, I began thinking that my mistake was going to cost me money.
As I apologized, he graciously assured me that it was fine. Thankfully, he had the extra money and was willing to pay the difference.
When mistakes are made, how do you handle them? I was thankful that day for a customer who responded with understanding and grace. His kindness reminds us that we all need grace because we all make mistakes.
The way we respond to the failures of others often reveals whether the grace of God is truly shaping our own hearts.
The Scriptures instruct us: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).
