Some of the area’s best young baseball players will be headed to Cochran this weekend as the Cochran-Bleckley Recreation Department hosts the 10U Dixie Youth Baseball District Tournament on June 5-6.
The tournament will bring teams, families and fans from four counties together to compete for a chance to advance to the Dixie Youth State Tournament and continue their journey toward the Dixie Youth World Series.
Local officials say the event is expected to bring visitors to the community while showcasing Cochran and Bleckley County’s hospitality and support for youth athletics.
The tournament will also give residents an opportunity to cheer on the hometown team as the Cochran-Bleckley 10U All-Stars take the field against some of the district’s top competition.
“We are excited to welcome players, families and fans from across the district to our community,” organizers said in promotional materials for the event. “With the tournament bringing additional visitors to the area, we encourage everyone to support our amazing local businesses while you’re in town.”
Admission to the tournament is $10 per person.
Organizers are also seeking business sponsors and donations to help support the event and provide a positive experience for participating athletes and their families.
In addition to the competition on the field, the tournament is expected to provide an economic boost for local restaurants, retailers and other businesses as visiting teams spend the weekend in Cochran.
Community members are encouraged to come out, support the local all-stars and help create a lively atmosphere at the ballpark.
As organizers put it, the goal is simple:
“Pack the stands for our hometown teams.” ⚾💜💛
The tournament will be hosted by the Cochran-Bleckley Recreation Department and begins Friday, June 5. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and show their support for the local team as they compete for a chance to advance to the next level of postseason play.
