From Staff Reports

The City of Cochran is reminding residents about proper trash, yard waste and bulk pickup procedures through information distributed by Ryland Environmental.

Residents are asked to place trash carts within four feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day with the arrows on the lid facing the street and the cart handle facing the house. Carts should also be placed at least five feet away from obstacles such as cars, mailboxes and power poles.

Bulk pickup is scheduled for the second Friday of each month. Residents must call Cochran City Hall at 478-934-6346 by 2 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month to schedule pickup.

According to the City of Cochran, each customer may schedule up to four bulky items per month at no additional charge. Bulky items include furniture, appliances, household items and pallets. Gas grills must have tanks removed and lawn mowers must be drained of fluids before pickup. Construction debris, tires, batteries, fencing materials and extra bags of garbage will not be accepted.

Yard waste is collected weekly on the same day as regular trash service. The maximum pile size allowed is 5 feet long by 5 feet high by 5 feet wide. Any excess material will be left for the following week’s pickup. Residents are also asked to bag loose leaves and pine straw to prevent debris from blowing into roadways and to allow drivers to safely collect the materials.

For questions or concerns, residents may contact Cochran City Hall at 478-934-6346 or Ryland Environmental toll free at 478-272-4411, option 3 for Houston County.
