September is shaping up to be a busy month in Cochran and Bleckley County, with everything from school sports and government meetings to community events, church homecomings and downtown activities on the calendar.
The Bleckley Progress compiled a September community calendar for the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce, bringing many of the month’s events together in one place.
The Cochran Farmers Market will continue each Saturday in September at 8 a.m., unless otherwise noted.
Among the community events scheduled this month are Second Saturday Music & Food Trucks at 7 p.m. Sept. 12, New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Homecoming at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13, Bethany Baptist Church’s Wild Game Dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 and the Chamber of Commerce Bingo Night at 6 p.m. Sept. 21.
Several local government and board meetings are also included. The Cochran City Council will hold a work session at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 and its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 8. The Recreation Department Board meets at 5 p.m. Sept. 14, followed by meetings of the Downtown Development Authority on Sept. 15, the Bleckley County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 17 and the Bleckley County Board of Education later that same day.
Bleckley County school athletics fill much of the calendar as well, with middle and high school softball, football and cross-country events scheduled throughout September. The month includes home high school football games against Jasper County on Sept. 4 and Dublin on Sept. 25, both beginning at 7:30 p.m.
A middle and high school cross-country two-mile night race is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the high school track.
Residents are encouraged to check individual organizations for any schedule changes or additional information.
