Friends, family members, local leaders and community residents gathered at the Bleckley County Courthouse on Tuesday to recognize Carolyn Kitchens for her years of volunteer service and dedication to helping others throughout the community.
Kitchens was presented with a plaque by Bleckley County Commissioner Mike Davis during the gathering, which included refreshments and remarks from several speakers who shared stories of her kindness, humility and servant’s heart.
Known throughout the area for quietly helping those in need, Kitchens has spent years assisting elderly residents and shut-ins, often providing rides to doctor appointments and checking on people who may not otherwise have support.
Those who know her best say she never seeks recognition for what she does.
“She doesn’t complain and she never asks for attention,” one attendee shared. “She just helps people because that’s who she is.”
State Rep. Danny Mathis spoke during the event, along with Keith Rustin, pastor of First Baptist Church of Cochran.
Kitchens was joined by members of her family, including her sons Freddy and Jay, daughters-in-law Lisa and Bonnie, and grandson Christian.
Throughout the courthouse hallway, residents lined the walls and gathered around to celebrate a woman many described as a quiet but steady blessing to Bleckley County.
The recognition reflected not only appreciation for Kitchens’ years of service, but also the impact one humble person can have on an entire community through simple acts of kindness and faithfulness.
