ACCG honors county officials completing Lifelong Learning Academy

ATLANTA — Bleckley County Fire Chief Matthew Kelley has been recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) for completing core requirements in the ACCG Lifelong Learning Academy.

Kelley received the certification during the association’s 2026 Annual Conference in Chatham County.

The Lifelong Learning Academy is a partnership between ACCG and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. The program provides county officials with training designed to strengthen leadership, improve decision-making, and address challenges facing local communities.

“Participating in the Lifelong Learning Academy is a commitment to professional growth and to building the strength and resilience needed to tackle the challenges facing one’s community,” said ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills. “Leaders like Mr. Kelley who make this commitment emerge stronger, more capable, and better equipped to lead with confidence.”

The program is guided by the ACCG Lifelong Learning Academy Committee, which includes county commissioners and staff from both ACCG and the Carl Vinson Institute. The curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure it meets the evolving needs of county governments.

Kelley expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“I extend my sincere thanks to ACCG and CVIOG for their dedication to professional development and for providing such a comprehensive training program,” Kelley said. “I also thank Sole Commissioner Mike Davis for allowing me this opportunity. I look forward to continuing to serve Bleckley County and helping keep it a great place to live and raise a family.”

ACCG is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities through public policy advocacy, leadership development, civic engagement initiatives, and insurance and retirement programs. Founded in 1914, the organization serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.
