Bleckley County voters will be asked to decide a single referendum during the upcoming special election—whether to allow the sale of distilled spirits by the drink in local restaurants.
The question will appear on ballots as:
“Shall the governing authority of Bleckley County be authorized to issue licenses to sell distilled spirits by the drink to restaurants for consumption at the restaurant?”
In plain terms:
This referendum asks whether restaurants in Bleckley County should be allowed to serve liquor (such as mixed drinks) to customers for on-site consumption, if they obtain the proper license.
A YES vote means:
A “yes” vote would allow the county to issue licenses to restaurants so they can legally serve distilled spirits by the drink. This would apply to drinks consumed at the restaurant, not for package sales.
A NO vote means:
A “no” vote would keep current rules in place, meaning restaurants would not be allowed to serve distilled spirits by the drink.
The referendum specifically applies to restaurants and does not automatically permit liquor sales in other settings. Any establishments would still be required to meet licensing requirements set by the county.
Voters will make the final decision when they head to the polls.
Early voting begins Monday, April 27.
Note to voters: Depending on which ballot you choose, you may see additional party questions. These are not referendums and will not change any laws—they’re simply used by political parties to gauge voter opinion.
