From Staff Reports
Phillip Lester is currently serving as one of the newest members of the Bleckley County Board of Education, representing District 2.
April marks the anniversary of Lester’s appointment to the board on April 22, 2025. As he continues in the role, Lester says he remains committed to learning and growing, keeping an open mind as he works to better understand his position and identify ways to serve more effectively and efficiently.
Since joining the board, Lester has been actively involved in school and board-related activities. He has participated in two graduation ceremonies, attended multiple full board training sessions, and completed new board member training in December. He also represented the Bleckley County Board of Education at the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) state conference in Atlanta, where the board received the “Exemplary Board” award for its performance over the past year.
In January, Lester was elected as an officer of the board and currently serves as Legislative Liaison. In this role, he traveled to the state capitol for GSBA Legislative Days during the Georgia General Assembly session, where he met with state legislators and gained insight into legislative processes affecting local education. During that visit, he also had the opportunity to speak with State Representative Danny Mathis.
Lester is actively engaged in the local school community, regularly attending events such as BCHS “Pancakes & Politics,” sporting events, plant sales, one-act plays and field days. He says these experiences continue to highlight the dedication and talent of Bleckley County students and staff.
He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve, noting that he is proud to represent the citizens of Cochran and grateful for the trust placed in him to help support local students and schools.
