State Representative Danny Mathis is seeking to continue serving the residents of Georgia’s House District 133, which includes all of Bleckley, Twiggs, Wilkinson and Dodge counties, along with portions of Telfair County.
A lifelong resident of Cochran, Mathis has longstanding ties to the community. He was raised in the Christian Methodist tradition and is a member of Longstreet Historical Methodist Church. He graduated from Cochran High School in 1972 and went on to earn an associate degree in Business Administration from Middle Georgia College. He also attended the Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service.
Mathis is the owner and operator of Mathis Funeral Home, Inc. in Cochran, where he has served families across the region for many years. Prior to his time in the legislature, he served as Bleckley County coroner for 18 years.
He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2018 and was sworn into office on January 14, 2019.
During his tenure, Mathis has served on several committees, including Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Small Business Development, and Transportation.
He also holds leadership roles, including Vice Chairman of a subcommittee and Secretary on committees such as Human Relations & Aging and Motor Vehicles.
Mathis and his wife, Ellen Purser Mathis, have been married for more than 50 years. They have three children—Dana Perkins, Cal Mathis and Bo Mathis—as well as several grandchildren.
As the campaign season continues, Mathis remains active in both his legislative responsibilities and his work within the Cochran community.
