For Jackie Fields, the moment she learned she was cancer-free came after months of fear, faith and fighting.
Fields, 55, a mother of four and grandmother of 10, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025 — news that initially left her shaken.
“I was scared,” she said. “But when you trust in God, you’re assured everything is going to be OK.”
That faith would carry her through one of the most challenging seasons of her life.
A longtime worker in a doctor’s office, Fields stepped into the role of a professional caregiver in 2021 — a job centered on caring for others. But after her diagnosis, the focus shifted.
Her treatment included chemotherapy and surgery in December, followed by ongoing immunotherapy every other week.
“I’m not a fan of taking medicine,” she said with a smile, “but I’ve had to really make myself be obedient.”
Following her surgery, Fields received the news she had been praying for — she was cancer-free.
“Everything has been so far so good,” she said.
Recovery, however, has been its own journey.
Fields is working to regain her strength and energy and recently began driving again after a period of rest.
“It feels good to be able to get out of the house,” she said. “It’s good to be in a good place.”
Throughout her battle, Fields said the support she received carried her.
“The prayers and support from my family, my friends, my church family — New Generational Beginning Ministries in Montrose — and the community of Bleckley County has been overwhelming,” she said. “Even people I don’t know.”
Now, as her strength returns, Fields is finding her way back to what she loves — caring for others. She has started visiting residents at a local nursing home.
“I just want to be helpful again,” she said.
Looking back, Fields describes her cancer journey as humbling — a season that deepened her faith and changed her perspective.
“When God tells you to rest, do it,” she said. “I was working 24-7. Twice He told me to rest, and the third time, He sat me down.”
“And I sat down.”
If she could offer advice to her younger self — or to others walking a similar road — her message is simple:
“Trust God and take time for yourself.”
Today, Fields stands not only as a cancer survivor, but as a testament to faith, resilience and the power of community — grateful for a second chance and ready, once again, to serve others.
