COCHRAN — Derek Warren has never been one to shy away from a little hard work. Whether installing flooring, making repairs or tackling a home improvement project, the Bleckley County native has spent more than two decades developing skills that have become the foundation of his business.
Warren, 50, is the owner of W3 Flooring & Handyman Services, offering residential and commercial flooring installation, interior trim work, door installation and repairs, minor plumbing, light electrical fixture work and general handyman services.
A 1994 graduate of Bleckley County High School, Warren originally planned to enter the military. Instead, his career took him through several jobs, including eight to nine years at Lithonia and a position with Frito-Lay, before he joined the City of Cochran Fire Department.
Working a schedule of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off gave Warren time to pursue other interests. Rather than sit idle, he started a pressure-washing business.
His interest in working with his hands, however, began years earlier. With a grandfather who was a carpenter, a stepfather who worked in flooring and a father who enjoyed mechanical work, Warren grew up around people who knew how to build, repair and figure things out.
He also enjoyed tinkering with cars and learning new skills.
From 2002 to 2004, Warren worked alongside his stepfather on flooring projects. It was during that time he discovered that flooring was something he enjoyed and wanted to pursue.
Over the years, that experience grew into a broader range of home improvement skills. Eventually, while serving as a lieutenant with the fire department, Warren decided to establish his own business.
Today, W3 Flooring & Handyman Services handles everything from flooring installations to the smaller repairs that help keep homes and businesses in good condition.
Warren takes pride in completing the work he undertakes, whether the project involves installing new flooring, replacing trim or addressing a household repair.
For homeowners, having someone with experience in several areas can make tackling those projects a little easier.
Away from work, Warren is a husband, father and grandfather who enjoys hunting and fishing.
His business reflects years of learning through experience and a willingness to take on the jobs that need doing.
