Things We Shouldn’t Have Done
To everyone’s surprise, this lady takes delight in pouring a pitcher of water on her husband’s head at the dinner table.
What had he done, or what did he say? Did he criticize her cooking? Whatever it was, this lady seemed compelled to react.
Was there a spirit of regret at this dinner table? Even though she poured the water on his head, did she regret doing it afterward? Did this man regret his actions that sparked his wife’s reaction? Did the two of them regret that this all took place in front of their children?
Just like the couple at this table, we have all done and said things that we deeply regret.
Peter is an example of someone who regretted making a promise he could not keep. Peter confidently stated that he would never disown Jesus, insisting that he was willing to go to prison or even die with Him. Then after denying Jesus three times, God’s Word says, “he went outside and wept bitterly” (Matthew 26:75).
We cannot unpour a pitcher of water, or unsay words. Regret alone cannot repair our actions. Are you willing in true humility, to extend a sincere apology to those you may have hurt?
