From Staff Reports

COCHRAN, Ga. — Young learners attending Homeschool Hangout at the Tessie W. Norris Cochran-Bleckley Library recently received a special visit from the Cochran Fire Department, combining hands-on learning with an opportunity to meet some of the community’s firefighters.

Cochran Fire Chief Brock Wilcher and members of the department spent time with homeschool families, sharing information about fire safety, firefighting equipment and the important responsibilities of first responders.

The visit included an indoor presentation where children had an opportunity to see firefighting equipment up close, including a firefighter’s helmet. Young participants also gathered outside to see the department’s ladder truck and watch firefighters demonstrate its extended aerial ladder.

Adding to the excitement was Sparky the Fire Dog, who posed for photographs and greeted children during the event.

The program offered children an opportunity to learn about fire prevention while becoming more familiar with the firefighters who serve and protect the Cochran community.

Library representatives expressed their appreciation to the department for taking time to participate in the educational program.

“A HUGE thank you to our local firefighters for taking the time to visit, share their knowledge, and give our homeschool families a special presentation,” the library shared.

The visitwas part of the library’s Homeschool Hangout activities, which provide opportunities for homeschool families to gather, learn and participate in community programs.

The Cochran Fire Department’s visit also highlighted the importance of building positive relationships between young residents and local emergency responders.
