The Best Sandwich I Ever Had

What is your favorite sandwich? I enjoy a BLT, especially when it is made from a fresh summer tomato. However, it might surprise you to know that the absolute best sandwich I’ve ever had was a simple peanut butter sandwich.

To understand why, let me first tell you that I normally eat breakfast at 8:00, lunch at 12:00, and supper at 6:00. One day, I became so involved in what I was doing that I completely forgot to eat. Suddenly, I was hit with hunger pangs and realized it was 4:30 p.m. My body was screaming, “Eat something!” I ran into the house and quickly made myself a peanut butter sandwich. I don’t think anything ever tasted so good.

Our bodies are designed to tell us what we need, such as food, fluids, sleep, medicine, or even comfort and friendship. In the same way, as children of God, the Holy Spirit alerts us to our spiritual needs, such as more time in His Word, prayer, private worship, quiet meditation, faithful stewardship, or evangelism.

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

Just as our bodies tell us when we are physically hungry, do we recognize when our souls are spiritually hungry?
