From Staff Reports
COCHRAN, Ga. — The Cochran City Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in the City Auditorium, with discussion of the city manager appointment among several items on the agenda.
The meeting comes amid ongoing community discussions about city leadership, communication, accountability and the future direction of Cochran.
According to the published agenda, the council will take up the “Discussion – Appointment of City Manager” as its sixth agenda item. The agenda does not specify whether a vote will be taken or whether the discussion will focus on the current interim city manager, Angela Redding, or the process of selecting a permanent city manager.
The city manager position has been a subject of considerable public interest in recent weeks, including discussions at a business owners forum and the mayor’s recent town hall meeting.
Residents who have expressed concerns, asked questions or offered opinions about city leadership are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s meeting and hear the discussion firsthand.
Other Business on the Agenda
The council will also consider several other matters affecting city operations and residents.
Among those items are:
- Consideration and adoption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan for Bleckley County and the City of Cochran.
- Consideration of a natural gas appliance rebate program for qualifying residential customers, with proposed rebates ranging from $50 to $300.
- Approval of surplus administration equipment for disposal through GovDeals.com.
- Consideration of a T-hangar contract for Cochran Municipal Airport.
- Reappointment of Howard Pridgen to the Housing Authority Commission for another five-year term.
The proposed natural gas rebate program would provide financial incentives for qualifying residential customers who switch from electric or propane appliances to natural gas or replace certain older units. Applications would be required within 60 days of installation.
The meeting will also include the oath of office for newly hired City Clerk Hannah Kennedy, a Fire Prevention Week proclamation, and reports from city departments and community agencies.
A public comment period is included on the agenda.
Your Presence Matters
Local government decisions affect residents, business owners, property owners and families throughout Cochran.
While social media provides an opportunity for discussion, attending a public meeting allows citizens to hear information directly, observe their elected officials and better understand the decisions being considered.
Residents do not have to agree on every issue to share a common interest in the future of their community.
Whether you support the current direction of city government, have concerns about its leadership or simply want to learn more about how your city operates, Tuesday’s meeting offers an opportunity to become more informed.
The decisions made at City Hall belong to the elected officials entrusted with making them, but the responsibility of remaining informed belongs to the community.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Cochran City Auditorium. The public is encouraged to attend.
