COCHRAN, Ga. — Bleckley Memorial Hospital celebrated the opening and dedication of its chapel Tuesday, October 6, with a special ceremony honoring faith, reflection and the memory of individuals who have made a lasting impact on the hospital and community.

The ceremony, held at 2 p.m. at the hospital on East Peacock Street, brought together hospital leadership, staff, community representatives and guests for an afternoon of remembrance and celebration.

Hospital CEO John Roland welcomed those attending and delivered opening remarks before sharing reflections on the chapel’s design and the purpose behind the new space.

The chapel offers a place for quiet reflection, prayer and spiritual comfort for patients, families, hospital employees and visitors during times of uncertainty, grief and hope.

State Rep. Danny Mathis participated in the ceremony, presenting interfaith readings and blessings as part of the dedication.

One of the afternoon’s significant moments was the dedication of a memorial plaque recognizing individuals whose memories continue to hold a special place in the hearts of the hospital and the community.

The memorial recognition included Seth Payne, Mandy LeGuin, James Horton, Emily Murkerson, Vickie Cheek, Edith Butts, Angela May, Charlie Tuck, Johnny Butts, Samaria Brown, James Wilkes, Algie Jones Jr., Lilla Lee Purser, Treasure Lockhart, Desmond Gilbert, Bobby Mathis, Margaret Little, Matthew Bugg, Lillian Mathis, Prentice Roland Sr., Glenn Yon, Alton Yon, Dorothy Cravey, Barbara Allen, Leila Goodrum, Doris Shine, Enoch Crockett and Clyde Evans.

Also remembered were Dr. Buddy Smith, Dr. Henry Roberts, Dr. Charles Brooks, Dr. Sandra Gibbs and Dr. Wallace Lucas.

Following the memorial plaque dedication, those in attendance participated in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the chapel’s opening.

The afternoon concluded with closing remarks from Roland and an opportunity for guests to gather and visit.

Hospital officials also expressed appreciation to the employees and staff of Bleckley Memorial Hospital, the Cochran-Bleckley County community and surrounding communities, State Rep. Danny Mathis, Dublin Construction and the Hospital Authority of Bleckley County for their support.

The addition of the chapel represents another meaningful space within the hospital, recognizing that healing encompasses more than physical care. For individuals facing illness, loss or uncertainty, the opportunity to find a quiet moment of peace can provide a special kind of comfort.

Through its dedication, Bleckley Memorial Hospital has created a space where faith, remembrance and compassion can come together in service to the community.
