COCHRAN — Cochran residents will have an opportunity to speak directly with Mayor Carla Coley when she hosts a town hall meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Cochran City Auditorium.

The meeting comes just two days before the City Council’s scheduled Oct. 8 work session and one week before its Oct. 13 regular meeting.

In announcing the event, Coley said she hopes to highlight positive developments in Cochran while acknowledging the difficult issues facing the community.

“There’s so much going on in our community. I want to highlight the positive that is happening in our city, acknowledge many of the difficult issues, and allow time for respectful public comment,” Coley wrote on social media.

According to the announcement, the town hall will include city updates, upcoming projects and an opportunity for residents to ask questions and share ideas. City Council members have also been invited to attend.

The meeting follows weeks of public discussion about city operations, including concerns raised by business owners and questions surrounding the process of selecting a permanent city manager.

With two City Council meetings scheduled in the days following the town hall, residents have an opportunity to raise questions before additional municipal business is conducted.

An Opportunity for Community Participation

The town hall offers residents a chance to hear directly from the mayor, seek clarification on city issues and share their concerns in a public setting.

Residents who have questions about city operations, the city manager selection process, economic development, utility billing or other municipal matters are encouraged to attend and participate respectfully.

The meeting also provides an opportunity for city leadership to hear from residents who may not regularly attend council meetings.

Public participation is an important part of local government. Residents who want answers, have concerns or simply wish to understand the decisions affecting their community can use this opportunity to become more informed.

The mayor’s announcement does not specify which issues will receive detailed discussion or whether council members will participate in answering questions.

The town hall will take place ahead of the Oct. 8 work session and Oct. 13 regular council meeting. The Great Pumpkin Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, rounding out a busy stretch of community activities.
