COCHRAN — The Cochran City Council has released its Oct. 8 work session agenda approximately one week ahead of the scheduled meeting, giving residents advance notice of several issues expected to be discussed, including gas rebates, bulk waste, surplus equipment and the city’s comprehensive plan.

The early publication gives residents additional time to review the agenda and make plans to attend if they are interested in specific issues.

The evening will begin with a public hearing at 6 p.m. in the City Auditorium concerning a rezoning request for approximately 2.53 acres at 121 First Avenue. The request seeks to change the property’s zoning from A-1 (Agriculture District) to R-1 (Low Density Residential District).

The council’s work session will begin immediately following the public hearing.

Colby Still, territory manager for Consolidated Pipe, is scheduled to give a presentation before council members begin discussing the listed agenda items.

Several Issues Scheduled for Discussion

The council’s agenda includes six discussion items:

  • Comprehensive Plan: Discussion of the Bleckley County and City of Cochran Comprehensive Plan, which guides long-term growth and development.
  • Gas Rebates: Discussion of a possible gas rebate offer for customers. The agenda does not specify proposed rebate amounts, eligibility requirements or other details.
  • Bulk Waste: Discussion of bulk waste. No additional information about specific concerns or proposed changes is provided.
  • Surplus Equipment: Discussion of surplus equipment. The agenda does not identify the equipment involved or any proposed action.
  • Fall Retreat: Discussion of a fall retreat for the mayor and city council.
  • Housing Authority Appointment: Discussion of the reappointment of Howard Pridgen to the Housing Authority Commission.

According to background information accompanying the agenda, Pridgen’s current term expires Nov. 20, 2026. The Housing Authority director has described Pridgen as an asset to the agency and indicated that he is interested in serving another five-year term.

Executive Session Scheduled

The agenda also includes an executive session for personnel, litigation and real estate matters.

The published agenda does not identify the specific matters or individuals expected to be discussed during the closed session.

Under Georgia’s Open Meetings Act, certain personnel matters may be discussed in executive session.

The work session agenda concludes with adjournment following the executive session.

The Oct. 8 meeting is open to the public.
