From Staff Reports

COCHRAN — Every old building has a story to tell, and some of Middle Georgia State University’s most fascinating stories are waiting to be discovered right here in Cochran.

In celebration of National Archives Month, Middle Georgia State University’s Archives and Roberts Memorial Library will host “Walk Through History,” a guided walking tour of the university’s Cochran Campus, on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.

The event is free, open to everyone and requires no registration.

The approximately 45-minute tour will give participants an opportunity to explore the campus while learning about its rich history, historic buildings and the people and events that helped shape the institution.

Along the route, speakers will share historical information at various stops, offering participants a glimpse into the campus’s past.

The tour will also combine history with modern technology. QR codes placed at each stop will allow participants to access specially curated library guides featuring historical photographs and additional information.

From photographs of early campus buildings and aviation students in 1939 to images of student life and athletics, the event promises a look at the people, places and memories that are part of the college’s history.

For longtime Cochran residents, the tour may bring back familiar memories. For newcomers and younger generations, it offers an opportunity to discover some of the history that makes the campus such an important part of the community.

The event also highlights the importance of preserving historical documents, photographs and other materials so future generations can better understand the people and places that came before them.

Participants should meet at the front desk of Roberts Memorial Library on the Cochran Campus at 7 p.m.
