From Staff Reports

Bleckley County Middle School students posted gains in several areas of the Georgia Milestones assessments, with results showing increases in math, science and Georgia history performance.

According to data released by the school, sixth-grade math proficiency among the Class of 2032 reached 90.1%, up from 85.7% previously — an increase of 4.4 percentage points.

Eighth-grade students in the Class of 2030 also showed improvement in several areas.

In eighth-grade math, 94.6% of students scored proficient or above, compared with 90.3% previously, a gain of 4.3 percentage points. The percentage earning the highest Level 4 Distinguished designation increased from 25.4% to 31.5%, a 6.1-point gain.

Students also made gains in Georgia history. Proficiency climbed from 84.9% to 91.7%, an increase of 6.8 percentage points. The percentage of students reaching the Distinguished level rose from 16.4% to 21.4%.

In eighth-grade science, the percentage of students scoring at the Distinguished level increased from 20.5% to 21.5%.

The results are particularly notable because the school’s comparison follows the performance of the same groups of students over time rather than comparing entirely different classes.

BCMS highlighted the results under its “Baron Standard” message: “Same students. Higher scores.”

The latest figures show continued academic growth among Bleckley County Middle School students as they progress toward high school.
