The Cochran Fire Department will host a 9/11 Memorial Walk on Friday, Sept. 11, inviting firefighters, first responders and members of the public to come together in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Fire Chief Brock Wilcher said the walk is open to all departments, as well as current and former firefighters. Members of the public are also invited to participate.
Wilcher emphasized that the event is not a parade, but a walk in remembrance.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Cochran Fire Department, located at 134 First Street. Following opening remarks and time to assemble, participants will leave the station at 10:28 a.m. and walk to the Bleckley County football field.
The walk will honor all of those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks, including the 343 firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center site.
The event is intended to give the community an opportunity to remember the sacrifices made that day and to honor the firefighters, first responders and innocent victims who died.
Families, friends, local organizations and members of the community are welcome to take part.
