COCHRAN — The Cochran-Bleckley County Chamber of Commerce is focusing its 2026 efforts on business development, stronger partnerships, member resources and opportunities for local businesses to connect.
The organization, which has served Cochran and Bleckley County since 1978, states its mission as promoting and supporting local business growth while building healthy community relationships.
Its 2026 strategic plan centers on three primary areas — promotion and communication, networking and member resources — while also expanding programs aimed at business development.
The Chamber’s ongoing work includes ribbon cuttings, business spotlights, networking events, an online presence, the Bleckley Buzz newsletter and sponsorship opportunities.
Under promotion and communication, the Chamber plans to continue frequent member visits, digital marketing and social media support.
Networking remains another major focus. Chamber plans include monthly networking opportunities, Caffeinated Connections events, Business After Hours gatherings and Chamber-sponsored annual events.
Member resources include welcome packets for new members, a membership directory, programming and workshops, as well as a partnership with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center.
Several initiatives begun in 2025 are expected to continue or expand this year, including marketing materials, small-business panel events, community and stakeholder involvement, business spotlights, membership growth, member visits and facility renovations.
New goals for 2026 include expanding partnerships, developing additional business development programs, hosting a business expo and increasing programming and workshop opportunities.
The Chamber describes itself as a nonprofit organization that serves as a resource hub for members and works to strengthen relationships among businesses, residents, educational institutions and governmental agencies.
That community connection can also be seen in the makeup of the Chamber’s board.
Candace Summerall, COO of Fordham Enterprises LLC, serves as board chair. Mi Waters of Snow’s Asian Grill serves as vice chair, and Katie Dopson of Heartland EMS serves as secretary-treasurer.
Other board members represent health care, banking, public safety, education, insurance, tourism and local businesses.
Ex-officio members include representatives from Bleckley County government, the City of Cochran, the Cochran-Bleckley Industrial Development Authority, Bleckley County Schools and Middle Georgia State University.
Melissa W. Barker serves as the Chamber’s CEO and president. Samantha Rowland is administrative assistant, and Trennadi Anderson is serving as an MGA intern.
While chambers of commerce are often most visible during ribbon cuttings and special events, the organization’s 2026 plan shows a broader emphasis on helping businesses promote themselves, develop relationships and access resources that may help them grow.
For local businesses, that means opportunities not only to be seen, but also to connect with other businesses and organizations throughout the community.
