From Staff Reports
COCHRAN — Middle Georgia State University will honor local first responders as part of its “Knights Serve for 9/11 Day” initiative with a complimentary first responder appreciation car wash in Cochran.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gateway Hall on the Cochran campus.
Local first responders are invited to bring their vehicles to be washed by MGA volunteers. The event will also include refreshments and handwritten thank-you cards.
The project is part of MGA’s observance of 9/11 Day, a national day of service that encourages Americans to remember those lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks while honoring first responders and serving their communities.
According to MGA, the service projects are made possible through a 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps grant awarded to the university.
MGA students, faculty and staff are also invited to volunteer for the project.
A second first responder appreciation car wash is planned for Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Volleyball Gym on MGA’s Macon campus.
The university’s 9/11 Day message centers on three words: Remember. Honor. Serve.
