From Staff Reports

Originally from Mexico, Gabby Martinez knows what it is like to grow up with very little. She remembers nights when she went to bed hungry — experiences that continue to motivate her and remind her never to take today’s blessings for granted.

For Martinez, success means working hard, remaining humble and remembering where she started.

Today, Martinez co-owns R&G Lawncare LLC with Rigo Lopez. Based in Eastman, the company serves more than 600 clients across 14 counties and employs approximately 20 people. R&G is booked months in advance, and its growing list of contracts includes a five-year agreement with the City of Eastman.

Martinez also holds a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License and a Live Plant License.

More recently, she added another profession to her résumé. At the end of March, Martinez became a licensed Georgia Realtor with Good Thing Realty. Since earning her license, she has sold five properties.

Through years of work and sacrifice, Martinez has also built her own home and become a real estate investor with multiple investment properties — accomplishments she once could only dream of.

Despite her success, Martinez believes it is important to remain humble and never forget where she started.

Giving back to the community is also important to her. She helps others in a variety of ways and was recently inducted into the Rotary Club of Eastman. That same spirit extends to the people who work alongside her, whom Martinez considers part of her family.

Family remains one of the most important parts of her life. With no relatives living nearby, Martinez spends much of her free time with her son, Dylan, who plays travel soccer with BVB International Academy Georgia. Her father holds a particularly special place in her heart, and she travels to Mexico to visit him every chance she gets.

Her advice to others working toward their own goals is simple: Never give up on your dreams, keep working hard and always stay humble.

For Martinez, success does not erase the difficult days that came before it. She still remembers what it felt like to go to bed hungry and wonder what the future might hold. Rather than allowing those experiences to define her future, she used them as motivation to create a better life for herself and her son.

She knows what it is like to have very little — and she knows the faith, sacrifice and determination it took to build the life she has today.

For Martinez, remembering where she came from remains just as important as where she is going.
