COCHRAN — Cochran Fire & Emergency Services responded to 103 calls during July, with medical calls accounting for the majority of the department’s activity.

According to the department’s July activity report presented to the Cochran City Council Tuesday, firefighters responded to 71 medical calls, six motor vehicle crashes and four fire or fire alarm calls. Another 22 calls were classified as other incidents.

In addition to emergency response, the department continued work aimed at maintaining the city’s ISO rating, including business inspections and pre-fire plans, fire hydrant flushing and hydrant painting.

Annual apparatus pump testing is expected to be completed during August, while crews are continuing to flush fire hydrants throughout the city.

The department also reported progress at its training facility, where the training building now has a second story.

Firefighters participated in a variety of training exercises during July, including structure fire scenarios, search and rescue, rapid deployment and extinguishment drills, vehicle stabilization, pump training, SCBA checks and hydrant maintenance.

Community outreach was also part of the department’s month. Firefighters interacted with more than 25 children and 15 adults through Water Day and two fire station tours.

With summer temperatures remaining high, Fire Chief Brock Wilcher also reminded residents about the risk of dehydration and the importance of staying properly hydrated to avoid serious health problems.
