From Heartland EMS
Heartland EMS is recognizing veteran paramedic Robin Hamsley in its latest Employee Spotlight, highlighting her decades of service and the personal experience that inspired her career in emergency medical services.
Hamsley has been a member of the Heartland EMS team for more than 10 years and has worked as a paramedic for 27 years. In addition to serving in the agency’s Education Department, she is also willing to respond on an ambulance whenever she is needed.
Her decision to pursue a career in EMS stems from a childhood tragedy.
According to Heartland EMS, Hamsley was 10 years old when her best friend drowned during a church picnic. She watched as emergency responders worked to revive him beside the swimming pool.
“I remember feeling so sad and so helpless,” Hamsley shared. “I remember for weeks later, how everyone talked about what everyone should have done differently. After that tragic day, I decided when I grew up, I wanted to have the ability to help, if I were ever faced with that type of situation again.”
When she is not serving her community, Hamsley enjoys spending time with her family while working on their hay, cattle and goat farm.
