The Cochran City Council will meet for a work session on Thursday, July 9, at 6 p.m. at the City Auditorium to discuss several proposed ordinance changes, city initiatives and the proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget.
Among the items on the agenda is a request to consider amending the city’s code of ordinances regarding window signs. According to the agenda, the request stems from a letter submitted by W.J. Cheek asking the city to review the current ordinance.
Council members will also discuss the cost to fill a swimming pool and hear updates on the mayor’s advisory committees, including the Community and Economic Development Committee, Public Works Committee, Finance and Personnel Committee and Public Safety Committee.
Another topic scheduled for discussion is a request from a resident who wants to start a mobile bartending business. According to the agenda, allowing that type of business would require an amendment to the city’s code of ordinances.
The council is also expected to consider a proposal from Falcon Design Services to provide grant writing services for various city projects.
In addition, council members will discuss an amendment to the city’s agreement with Ryland for roll-off services. Agenda documents state the amendment is needed after city officials discovered rates for roll-off services at the wastewater treatment plant and inert landfill were inadvertently omitted from the agreement approved in March.
The work session will conclude with continued discussion of the proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget before council members may enter executive session for personnel, litigation or real estate matters.
The meeting is open to the public.
