What puts a smile on your face? Chocolate? My mother’s favorite candy was a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar.
When she was living in Baptist Village, I would buy them by the box for her. Whenever I gave them to her, a big smile would come across her face.
One night, around 3 a.m., she got up and fell. She wasn’t seriously hurt, but I asked her what she was doing up so early. I couldn’t believe it.
She had gotten up for a Hershey’s Chocolate Bar. What is it that brings you so much joy that you look forward to it every day? I love to eat.
In the morning, I look forward to breakfast, and often while I am eating, I’m already thinking about lunch. Food is delicious and meets our physical needs.
In the morning, I also look forward to spending time with the Lord in His Word. Scripture often refers to God’s Word as spiritual nourishment.
The psalmist said, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth” (Psalm 119:103).
We need such spiritual nourishment each day. With a smile on your face, enjoy every bite as you feast on His Word. Just be careful not to fall if it happens to be 3 a.m.
