From Staff Reports
Last week, the Bleckley County Fire Department deployed multiple firefighters and apparatus to Brantley County to assist with one of the most destructive wildfires in Georgia’s history.
The department responded through a request from the Georgia Mutual Aid Group (GMAG), sending six certified firefighters along with Engine 71 and Tanker 71 to support operations along the western front of the fire near Ga. Highway 110, in the Bay Harbor Church Division.
The first deployment team served from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening and included firefighters Brad Smith, TJ Reynolds, Phillip Smith, and Nick Meezko. A second team rotated in from Thursday evening through midday Friday, consisting of Captain Brandon Nobles, firefighter Chris Bryant, and firefighter Brad Smith.
“It was an honor and privilege to assist the citizens of Brantley County and work alongside fire departments from across Georgia,” Captain Brandon Nobles said. “The bonds created with both the community and fellow responders are irreplaceable.”
The Bleckley County Fire Department remains ready to respond to future mutual aid requests through GMAG to help protect life and property.
Residents are encouraged to keep those impacted by the wildfires in their thoughts and prayers.
