Bleckley County will once again take part in a longstanding tradition as the community prepares for the 23rd Annual Bible Reading Marathon, set for May 1–7.

Notably, Bleckley County holds the distinction of being the first county in the state of Georgia to host the event, which has continued for more than two decades as a time of reflection, faith, and community involvement.

The week will begin with an opening ceremony on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bleckley County Courthouse.

Former Bleckley County School Superintendent L.C. “Buster” Evans will serve as keynote speaker for the event.

The Bleckley County High School Band, under the direction of Sarah Rosemann, will also perform during the opening ceremony.

A proclamation recognizing Bible Reading Marathon Week, May 1–7, 2026, highlights the significance of Scripture as a source of guidance, hope, and instruction, encouraging individuals throughout the community to engage in daily Bible reading.

Community leaders, pastors, and local officials gathered recently for a proclamation signing in support of the event, reflecting the broad support and participation the marathon continues to receive each year.

The Bible Reading Marathon invites residents to come together in unity, reading Scripture publicly and privately throughout the week as a reminder of faith’s role in both individual lives and the community as a whole.
