The Bleckley County Varsity Royals dropped a 10-6 decision to First Presbyterian Day on Monday at home, despite outhitting their opponent and mounting a late comeback effort.
First Presbyterian Day jumped out early, plating six runs in the top of the first inning to take immediate control of the game. They added insurance runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to build a 10-3 lead heading into the final frame.
Bleckley County answered with a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, but the comeback fell short.
The Royals collected 12 hits on the night, led by W. Boatright, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. B. Fleming added two hits and an RBI, while L. Sapp contributed two hits and drove in two runs. C. Finch and N. Woodard also had multi-hit performances for Bleckley.
G. Cole took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings. He was followed by C. Elliot in relief as the Royals worked to keep the game within reach.
First Presbyterian Day finished with eight hits but capitalized on early opportunities and played clean defensively.
Despite the loss, Bleckley showed resilience at the plate, keeping pressure on throughout the game and finishing strong in the final inning.
